The Resonance Tree

The built first phase of Resonance: a bamboo pavilion with a woven hourglass trunk, a steel crown ring, a climbable net, and wind chimes. Modeled as a gridshell, fabricated in Bali, and raised on the playa at Burning Man 2026.

The problem

Black Rock City gives art one hostile site: gale-force gusts, alkaline dust, and a city that exists for a week. The brief was a climbable sanctuary that reads as sculpture from afar, built from bamboo and able to travel.

What we built

A woven trunk

A reciprocal-frame bamboo trunk with woven roots to crawl through and climbing nets in the crown.

Engineered for the desert

Modeled in Rhino and designed to ISO 22156 for open-desert wind and crowd loads.

Made in Bali

Prefabricated by master craftspeople in Bali and shipped by container to Nevada.

Solar lanterns

A canopy of solar-powered lanterns, each simulated for sun access and battery runtime.
